The first appointment is an hour an a half intake with and extensive history, osteopathic diagnosis, and treatment. We will learn about your history and the experiences that have shaped how your body functions. This includes a dental history, birth history both your own and that of your children, any surgeries or major medical events, and any traumas. Your body is amazing at compensating for these events during your lifetime, however if we can work with reducing their imact on your body there is often more available therapeutic potential to heal. Follow-up appointments are 45 minutes with time spent talking and 20-30 mnutes of hand on treatment tailored to what your body needs in that moment. We are observing with our hands, and synchronizing your bodies own therapeutic forces, including thoracic respiration, and the movement of the nervous system or Primary Respiration. Though Dr. Steele is board certified in Family Medicine, we ask that you have a primary care provider to manage other aspects of your health. We will however discuss your primary care needs from an Osteopathic perspective.
The treatment starts during our time together and your body can continue to make changes for the next week or two. We ask that you refrain from intense exercise for 48 hours after a treatment to facilitate this process and to protect your body as it is more vulnerable to injuries during this intense time of change. Children have many less compensations and for some issues may only require a few treatments. Adults also change very quickly, however we find that a pattern that has been present for many years or is very complicated may take the body more time. We always re-evaluate between 4-6 treatments to make sure that Osteopathy is a good fit for you, and that your body is making changes. This type of medicine synchonizes with your own ability to heal. Understanding this, we usually see a patient in two weeks after the first visit and then patients can come in anywhere from every two weeks to every four to six weeks until they see resolution. The human body is very complex and while we can not promise that Osteopathy is a good fit for every patient, almost all patients see some resolution.
